Can Premium Price Hikes Help WellPoint Inc.’s Bottom Line?

On Wednesday WellPoint, Inc. recorded a 25 perecnt drop in quarterly profit. However,their shares lifted a bit with hopes that the health insurer will be able to contain and fix the problems that have plagued it in the past. The lift in share prices is encouraging for others in the industry indicating that this may not be a broad downturn. One would think that this indicates that the issues may be company specific and not an indicator of broad downturn. This is encouraging to most analysts. Other companies that enjoyed a lift in share price were: Aetna Inc climbed 5.2 percent, Cigna Corp bounced up 8 percent, and Coventry Health Care jumped 3.8 percent
