The World Health Organization (WHO), releases report supporting Universal Health Systems Financing. Specifically, WHO points out in the report that countries bolster health financing by increasing more dollars for health, raising it in a more equitable fashion, and being more efficient on how it is spent.

In this report, the World Health Organization maps out what countries can do to modify their financing systems so they can move more quickly towards this goal – universal coverage – and sustain the gains that have been achieved The report builds on new research and lessons learned from country experience. It provides an action agenda for countries at all stages of development and proposes ways that the international community can better support efforts in low income countries to achieve universal coverage and improve health outcomes.

Health Industry Trends

We are happy to announce that we have added a new section to health industry news called the Health Industry Trends which will feature the latest on health industry trends, healthcare industry, health care industry trends, health care industry reports and related health industry sites.

Please take a minute to review the Health Industry Trends and we always love to hear suggestions on what to add.

Comparative Effectiveness Resource

hey a new site just launched – still getting their legs under them – but given all the recentĀ  “chatter” about comparative effectiveness – this should be a good resource as the national health care debate continues. I also understand the owners of the site are looking for writers to contribute to the blog.

Bio Informatics News

Bio Informatics News

The latest news, articles and online resources related to bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, nano technology, stem cell research, genomics and proteomics.

Bio Informatics is a science involving the techniques of chemistry, statistics, mathematics, computer science, informatics and biochemistry to solve biological problems on the molecular level. The use of computers make the handling of information easier and when such biological information is provided to you through computers it becomes easier to access data quickly, making biological research more productive and effective.

Bio Informatics Research

Major research is done in areas like sequence analysis, gene finding, protein structure alignment and prediction, protein-protein interactions and evolution. Sequence analysis is a computer based examination of fragments such as DNA strands to either find similar sequences or identification of genes or to predict protein structures and similar observations. Gene finding can involve gene duplication, lateral gene transfer and the prediction of bacterial factors. Measuring biodiversity consists of using specialized software programs to find, visualize and analyze information relating to species, genetics, size of populations, habitat needs and so on. In cancer the genomes of the affected cells are rearranged in a complicated manner thus massive sequencing is required to find the previous original combination which can be done using bio informatics.

Software tools for bioinformatics vary from simple command line tools to complex graphical programs. The best tool available is the BLAST used for determining the similarity of sequences from databases of protein or DNA sequences. SOAP (Service Oriented Architecture Protocol) based bioinformatics web services show the methods to use these for solutions. These can vary from standalone systems to entire comprehensive workflow management systems.
